Waterfall by Lisa Tawn Bergren

4 out of 5 Stars

This is the first book in the River of Time series by Lisa Tawn Bergren. Gabi’s parents are archaeologist. Gabi and her sister are exploring on a dig and they travel back in time. She wakes up and her sister is gone and she is in the middle of a medieval battle. Luckily she knows her history and was able to make up a believable story for why she’s there dressed in jeans. I mean she wouldn’t fool anyone now but it worked.

I loved watching as Gabi stumbled through the medieval life. Her goal is to find her sister. She knows that she is somewhere in this time but not in the same place as her. Of course Gabi crushes on someone she shouldn’t. It is a YA story after all.

The only thing that bothered me a little bit was that Gabi thought she knew it all. She though she could go up against warriors in the 1300s. Girl, that is literally all they know how to do. She was very naive. Her father taught her how to fight but that is no where near the same thing as fighting a man who has been killing people to survive since he was a boy.

I am looking forward to the next book.
