Rebel Belle by Rachel Hawkins

I enjoyed this book at least most of it. Harper annoyed me quite a lot. The whole southern girl prissy didn’t work for me. I grew up in the south and I assure you we didn’t act that way. Even Cassie(who was my high school’s Harper) didn’t act half as crazy as Harper did and lord we all wanted to punch Cassie. Anyways… I hated that everyone bowed down to this chick.. Honesty what did she do? She was homecoming queen? BFD so was I. I just hated how self righteous she was. Yeah I almost put this book down so many times because of her. I kept reading because I wanted to see what happened when she broke up with Ryan.. but she just kept putting it off.. which makes her a bitch.

The part that I did really like was the oracle/Paladin thing. It was such an interesting plot. I LOVED it. I just struggled with Harper. I honestly don’t know if I will finish the next book. I started it and I already hate something that Harper did. So I think I might be done with this series.

Atlantis: The King’s Return by D.K. Combs

Rating: 3 out of 5.

So I did really enjoy this story.. but there were quite a few things that bothered me about it. Not huge things that took away from the book but enough where it drove me crazy.

The story itself was fantastic. I loved it. I love books about Atlantis. Ambrose was super sweet and kind.. especially for a man that was tortured for 2000 years. I think that Mari was good for him because she was so bubbly and I just think that helped him.

So I liked the idea behind this story. I love that a mortal woman was shipwrecked and saved a merman and in turn he saved her by turning her. I love that! Such a freaking cool premise.

A couple things that really, really bothered me though:

One thing that I did not like was where the author broke off chapters. I feel like a lot of the chapters ended in the middle of a thought. That just seemed off to me. The second thing was Mari… She wasn’t a terrible character, she was just dumb. She kept asking if mermaids farted.. I mean she was obsessed with it. It annoyed the ever loving f*ck out of me. The third thing was the world building was terrible. There really wasn’t any at all.

So overall, good book. I just wish that I knew more about the world. I feel like it was very relationship based.. which is 100% fine with me.. except when the book is in freaking Atlantis, I want to know about that shit!

Light My Fire by G.A. Aiken

If I could fly, I would live in tree. Stare down at everyone… quietly hating them all.”

This is the 7th book in the Dragon Kin series by G.A. Aiken. This is by far the best book from this series. It is one of the best books I’ve read in a long while. I don’t even think I can write a proper review. That’s honestly how much I loved it. But I shall try.

The book starts off with Elina with a ridiculously long name from the Stepps “attempting” to assassinate the Dragon Queen. I say “attempting” because she really didn’t try. She told the guard, Celyn, that she was there to kill the queen and then when brought before the queen she told her that she was there to kill her.. Everyone laughed and Celyn was ordered to put her somewhere safe and he put her in jail and then forgot about her for months. But then the Queen decides she wants Elina to try to help form an alliance with the dragons and the women of the Stepps. So thats how the whole journey started. Celyn escorts Elina back home.

Obviously a lot more happens but you can read the book and find all that out. What I freaking loved about this book was Elina and Celyn. I don’t even know how to explain. Elina is blunt to the point of rudeness. She takes everything that is said literally and everything she says is meant to be literal. She says anything and everything that should never be said. She wasn’t dramatic in any way. Everything was said just as a fact and I effing love her. I seriously want her in my life. No other character has ever made me laugh as much.

And Ceyln just accepts and takes anything that Elina throws at him. And he is funny as well. I also love his interaction with his sister. I don’t think anyone else could have made a better mate for Elina. He was sweet, even when Elina had no clue why. He was just adorable. He is my favorite dragon. By far. I love him.

I loved everything about this book. Every single word was perfection.

The Unbecoming of Mara Dyer by Michelle Hodkin

2 out of 5 Stars

I know this is an unpopular opinion but I didn’t like this book.. Well I don’t know how I feel it.. It was weird. It was super dramatic and angsty, which isn’t the kind of book I usually enjoy. So.. Do I rate it low because I really didn’t like it? Is that really fair when I picked up a book that was way, way out of my comfort zone? Bah.

So I enjoyed parts of this story… I think I like the idea of this story more than I liked the actual story. The idea that a girl has some seriously messed up gift seemed interesting. But I think my problem was that I didn’t like Mara and I really didn’t like Noah either. It’s hard to get into a complex story like this when I don’t like the characters. I think a lot of the school drama was unnecessary too. Unless some of those characters have gifts too?? If not, then yeah waste of my freaking time.

And that ending? psh. So freaking dramatic.

I may read the next book.. I haven’t really decided yet. I kind of want to know how it goes.. but then a part of me really doesn’t care.

Stalking Jack the Ripper by Kerri Maniscalco

4 out of 5 stars

This book was a lot more graphic than I thought it was going to be. There were a few times that I actually felt queasy. But to be fair I get queasy when I get a paper cut…

I really enjoyed this book. There were a few times that I wanted to punch Audrey Rose in the face. She was a little naive but I still really enjoyed her. And Thomas was perfection. I am pretty sure he will forever be one of my book boyfriends.

I absolutely loved how the author told this story. I loved the conclusion. I was blown away by the creativity. Seriously so good. I did not see it coming.
