Fable by Adrienne Young

5 out of 5 stars

Rating: 5 out of 5.

I loved this book so much. I literally read this book in a day! I have two young kids.. so that’s not easy! But I could not put it down!

This book is all about Fable. It starts with her being 14 and abandoned by her father on a criminal island with nothing more than slash on her arm. She spends the next couple of years learning to survive on her own. Working her way to buy passage off the island so she can go find her father. She does eventually bribe her way onto the Marigold. Where she is not welcomed by the crew. I loved watching Fable slowly earn the respect of the crew. I loved that she was confident but knew that respect isn’t just given.

When Fable finally sees her father again it isn’t at all what she expected. Her inheritance is a ship! Just not the one she thought she was going to get. She now has something to help the Marigold and their crew. She joins back up with them and that’s where things get really interesting. The crew is now starting to like her and West ( the headmaster) is starting to show his real feelings.

The books ends on a cliffhanger and it makes you want the next book for sure! I can’t wait to see what happens next!

Fable comes out September 1st and it’s not one you’re going to want to miss!

Thank you Netgalley for the early copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

The Black Witch by Laurie Forest

I wanted to like this book more than I did.. Well that isn’t 100% accurate because I did like the book. I did not like Elloren. She got better towards the end but it was honestly hard to get to that point. Elloren has grown up with her uncle, completely sheltered. Her aunt decides that it’s time for Elloren to attend Verpax University. When she gets there she is immediately thrown into “turf war” over a boy. The problem here is that it’s completely ridiculous. The “other” girl is a psycho. It was honestly annoying because there was literally no reason for any of that drama. But that isn’t why I didn’t like Elloren. I didn’t like her because she was so unbelievably naive. She knew absolutely nothing about the outside world. I know she as sheltered but come on! Her brothers went to the school. She had to know something! She looked down on everyone.. she though she was better than everyone! But then got upset whenever someone hated her. She also whined and cried a lot. And she tattled whenever anyone looked at her funny. It was obnoxious. Honestly I had to force myself to finish the book. Luckily she eventually started fighting her own battles but it was a very long, very annoying road.

Okay so now onto the things I actually enjoyed. I loved the politics in this book. It was all so intricate and absolutely fascinating. It was hard to know who was bad and who was a rebel. I loved learning which side everyone was on. I liked the rebellion. I think the next book is going to be a million times more interesting and enjoyable because Elleron has finally picked a side.

Do I recommend this book? Yes but be prepared to hate the main character. Honestly there aren’t any redeeming qualities about her until the end. She’s awful.

The Sword and the Dagger by Robert Cochran

4 out of 5 Stars

Rating: 4 out of 5.

I enjoyed this book so much! This book is about a Christian prince(Conrad), the princess he was suppose to marry(Elaine) and the Muslim assassin(Rashid) sent to kill her. These three end up traveling to find out why Rashid was suppose to kill her. Of course nothing is ever that easy. They are sent on a separate quest to retrieve a letter.

I am obsessed with the characters and the friendship they formed. They all disliked each other at first. But they slowly grew to depend on each other. To trust that they would fight to save one another.

The history aspect of the story was very entertaining. The author, I think.. although I am no history buff, did a great job. Of course some things were changed but I think he did a great job at keeping the heart of the history true.

If you enjoy history and strong friendships then I highly recommend this book.

3.5 stars. I wish GR would get half stars!

I was just a little disappointed by this book. It’s advertised as Les Miserables meets Six of Crows. Listen, if you put Six of Crows in your description, I will read your book. I don’t care what it’s about Six of Crows is one of my all time favorite books. The problem with this is that my expectations are high and this book just didn’t live up to them. It wasn’t a bad book by any means. I just didn’t enjoy it as much as I wanted to.

I did really love Nina. She was very unapologetic in using the people and things she needed to. She had a purpose and she would stop at nothing to reach it. I loved this about her. You could see her growth through out the book. She didn’t miraculously turn into a good human but you could see her humanity growing. She was a very complex character. I think the author did an amazing job with her. She was real and had many flaws but you still love her.

This book is dark and gritty. There is no apology in how truly awful this world is and how awful the people who live there are. There seems to be no hope and yet our characters find something to fight for!

Thank you so much for an early copy of this book.

House of Earth and Blood by Sarah J Maas

4 out of 5 Stars

Rating: 4 out of 5.

I am going to attempt to write a review for this monster of a book. So much happens here that it’d be hard to write a review without spoiling so this will probably be short and sweet.

I want to start off by saying Sarah J Maas can write a fantasy world like it’s her job.. I mean I know it’s her job but she is absolutely perfect at it. This world is so in depth and I felt like I was in Crescent City. She is also insanely good at writing characters. I could feel every emotion Bryce went through. I honestly could. The storytelling is all so good that I feel like I am apart of it.

Now that being said.. I was bored for the first 3rd of this book. It took me weeks to read because I kept putting it down. After the first bit though, I literally could not stop reading. So if you are having the same problem you should push through it. I promise you will not regret it.
